Cultivating trust and forging genuine connections with our communities is not just good for business – it's the currency of a brighter, more interconnected future. And, one show has been making waves by bringing together businesses and community spirit. Let's Talk Business, hosted by Marc Ebinger and co-hosted by Heather Boehme, is a unique podcast that emphasizes the often-overlooked aspect of the corporate world – community involvement. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of being involved in the community, with insights from guests Corey Conerly and Andre Woodard from the San Antonio alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Building Bridges Through Community Engagement

Business owners often find themselves navigating a world of numbers, strategies, and market dynamics. However, "Let's Talk Business" highlights the fact that the success of a business doesn't solely rely on profit margins and quarterly reports. It's also about trust and relationships. In this section, we'll delve into how business owners can benefit from community involvement.

Trust is the Currency of the Community

Trust is a cornerstone of any successful business. By actively participating in community, business owners can demonstrate their commitment to the people they serve. This trust translates into loyal customers and a positive reputation, which can significantly impact the bottom line.

Relationship Building: The Key to Sustainable Success

The power of networking is no secret, but what about genuine connections? By engaging with the community, business owners can build authentic relationships that extend beyond transactional interactions. These relationships can open doors to collaborations, partnerships, and a thriving support system.

The Nupes: Champions of Community Engagement

Corey Conerly and Andre Woodard, guests on "Let's Talk Business," are part of the San Antonio alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, a well-known organization with a history of community involvement. They shared their experiences in partnering with businesses such as the Spurs and Valero for various community projects, emphasizing the fraternity's unique ability to provide both manpower and resources.

The Mission and History of Kappa Alpha Psi

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, founded on the principles of honorable achievement, excellence, and diligence, has a multifaceted mission that includes promoting the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral welfare of its members, as well as an unwavering commitment to community service. Corey and Andre got involved with the fraternity to be part of a legacy of service and excellence.

The Impact of Kappa Alpha Psi's Programs

Kappa Alpha Psi's San Antonio chapter operates a variety of programs, including "Guide Right," which has made a significant impact on the community.

A History of Empowering Youth

The Kappa League program has an impressive track record, with over 6,000 youth currently enrolled in Kappa League programs across the country. The program boasts a remarkable 98% high school graduation rate, with 85% of students going on to attend four-year institutions. Notably, three Kappa Leaguers have been awarded the prestigious Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship, highlighting the program's dedication to academic excellence and achievement.

Guiding Youth Towards Success

The Kappa League program's focus on providing educational and occupational guidance has led to impressive results. Through college tours, leadership conferences, STEM programming training, drone competitions, hackathons, webinars, and financial literacy initiatives, it equips young men with the tools they need to excel academically and personally.

Fostering Lasting Community Connections

Community involvement isn't just a one-time effort; it's a commitment to the well-being of the community and its members. The San Antonio alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity takes this commitment to heart, and their ongoing contributions are a testament to their dedication.

The Roots of Kappa Alpha Psi

Kappa Alpha Psi's rich history dates back to its founding on January 5, 1911. It was established with a focus on achievement, excellence, and community service, values that continue to drive the fraternity's efforts today.

Building a Lifelong Commitment

One unique aspect of Kappa Alpha Psi is its encouragement of members to join alumni chapters in different cities. This promotes a lifelong commitment to service and community engagement, wherever Kappa Alpha Psi members may find themselves.

Guide Right: Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders

The "Guide Right" program, as a part of Kappa Alpha Psi's community initiatives, is geared towards preparing young men aged 8 to 18 for academic success and college. It is an opportunity for them to explore their interests, gain exposure to various career paths, and receive mentorship from experienced individuals. The objectives of the program include preparing youth for academic success and college while creating the next generation of leaders. It specifically addresses underachievement among black youth and provides educational and occupational guidance through mentorship. Some of the program's activities include college tours, leadership conferences, STEM programming, drone competitions, hackathons, webinars, and financial literacy programs.

Scholarships and Lifelong Mentorship

In addition to its youth programs, Kappa Alpha Psi provides scholarships to program graduates, offering financial support to those pursuing higher education. The fraternity also emphasizes lifelong mentorship to guide young individuals on their journeys to success.
